A native Californian, I was raised by my British mother who always tried
to grow an English garden in our backyard of central valley hard-pan
and heat. I tell everyone that she had a brake pedal on the passenger
side of the car that made us stop at nurseries whether my father wanted
to or not.
I have been gardening in Napa for over thirty years, including fifteen
years at the French Laundry in Yountville working with the Schmitt family
before they sold the restaurant. We grew a few vegetables, lots of herbs
and many cut flowers to decorate the interior.
While working there I attended California State University at Sonoma
where I fell in love with the sciences and proceeded to study Botany
including Plant Taxonomy and and Plant Physiology.
Since then I have managed a large estate garden and asccociated properties
surrounding a large Napa Valley winery. The garden there covers three
acres and includes vegetable, orchards, ornamentals, native plants...all
types of gardens.
I specialize in water-conserving, organic garden methods and least-toxic
methods of pest control. Please contact me for rates and availability.
If you wish, please join my quarterly newsletter mailing list for garden
tips, recommended plants and more.
